Iconic outdoor apparel and footwear company Sorel needed a ﬂexible solution for their retail needs - a design system that allowed them to scale the brand experience based on the available footprint. Skylab developed a revolutionary modular systems approach resulting in a retail concept that comes in 4 unique sizes - XS, S, M and L and transforms into an immersive trade show experience. Designed to be a pop-up, a shop-in-shop, a trade booth and a ﬂagship retail space, componentry is made to scale and custom ﬁt into diﬀerent spaces. Fixtures are stackable and nest for seasonal variations. Interchangeable wall panels in white oak and upholstered fabric can be conﬁgured with shelving, seating, mirrors, identity and digital imagery to expand and contract. Across the country, Sorel shop-in-shops have incorporated this ground-breaking test fit concept in New York City, Chicago, Minneapolis, Portland and Seattle. The success of the retail system is in the way it seamlessly connects the intersecting demands of scalability and growth while still oﬀering a holistic retail brand experience for customers no matter the location or context.
